After some evolutionary lineup changes in the first half of 2010, Mongrel hit the studio with new vocalist Sierra, and recorded the 6 song “The New Breed of Old School” EP featuring re-recorded versions of 6 songs from the “Fear, Lies, and Propaganda” LP as a way to reintroduce the band to the fans. Mongrel entered the studio again at the beginning of October 2010 to begin recording their next full length. After some false starts, the band finally has prepared to unleash Reclamation in September.
Says founder, guitarist Adam Savage, “Making “Reclamation” has probably been the most frustrating, yet proudest process of my musical career. It’s been a nearly 4 year, 5 band members, 2 studios, 2 labels, and countless hours process but the time has come and it’s finally coming out! I couldn’t be happier about sharing these songs with everyone and the team we have both in and around the band right now. ”
After recording the record in 2010, and releasing the Declamation EP, singer Jessica Sierra exited the band temporarily, and the LP was put on hold indefinitely. Following her return to the fold in 2012, the band reconvened with on again off again manager, and former Corporate Punishment honcho, Thom Hazaert, about releasing the LP through his new digital imprint, THC : X.
Savage adds, “With the return of our singer, I again began talks with Thom, about helping us with the release. We had talked in the past about working together but with the false starts of the initial sessions and the delays during Jess’ hiatus it just never worked out right. Now, Thom had his new label, and With Jess back and more fierce and fired up than ever, the addition of Micah on bass and Mike on drums, and the album coming out on September 25th 2012, we are very excited to see what comes next. I’ve never been more frustrated, stressed out, self-doubting, and miserable as I have been at times in the process of getting these songs recorded and released, but by the same token I’ve never been more excited about the songs we recorded, and the people we’re working with. Mongrel has survived a lot in the last few years and has come out stronger and better than ever. with a record I’m really proud of”.
